Mariana is a Black woman, a storyteller. Her work as a screenwriter and director has been recognized at national and international film festivals, where she explores themes related to Black identity, belonging, and gender. In 2023, she directed the immersive installation "Redenção," which was selected for the immersive documentary competition at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, IDFA. In 2021, she directed two episodes of the streaming series "Enigma da 'Energia Escura'" (26 min) for Lab Fantasma and GNT. In 2017, she directed the short fiction film "Casca de Baobá" (12 min). "Casca de Baobá" has been featured at various exhibitions and festivals in Brazil and in countries such as Canada, the United States, France, Portugal, South Korea, Colombia, Cape Verde, Uganda, and others, earning six awards. In 2010, she directed the documentary "A B Ser" (52 min), which won the Filma Brasil / TV Futura fund. As a screenwriter, Mariana has collaborated with production companies such as Preta Portê Filmes, Conspiração Filmes, and Coqueirão Pictures. She co-wrote the script for the upcoming film "Praia Formosa" (2024 IFF Rotterdam, directed by Julia De Simone) and contributed to "A Festa de Leo" (2023, Rio Film Festival, directed by Gustavo Melo and Luciana Bezerra). Mariana holds a degree in Screenwriting from the New York Film Academy and in Editing from the Darcy Ribeiro Film School in Rio de Janeiro. She is an active member of the organizations (APAN (Associação dos Produtores Audiovisuais Negros), BGDM (Brown Girl DOC Mafia), AAWIC (African American Women In Cinema, USA), and Talento Paradiso.
