In realising his Studies into the past series, Laurent Grasso worked together with professional art conservators in making extremely precise reproductions of (details of) paintings by the Italian masters Uccello, Fra Angelico, Mantegna and Botticelli. Grasso’s reproductions, however, include miraculous appearances, such as eclipses of the sun and large flocks of birds and insects. It is his way of stretching our concept of authorship and authenticity and muting the borders between what we regard as classical and contemporary.
