Another work by Laurent Grasso in which the heaven above the Vatican plays a major role is the film Les Oiseaux. The flight of a large flock of birds forms strange shapes in the air above the city that houses the Holy See. The Aztecs predicted the future based on this hypnotic spectacle.

Birds and cathedrals are also a regular feature in the work of Marinus Boezem. For instance, for the project In Vogelvlucht [A Bird's Eye View] (2010) he drew the floor plan of the basilica of Assisi with bird seeds on the floor in the Vleeshal [Meat Market] in Middelburg. During the course of the exhibition, the floor plan was eaten up by nineteen white doves, representing the 'flight' [= disappearance] of the architecture. This project is the human search for spirituality, the personal, inner experience in respect of a higher reality. Is God an infinite presence or does he exist only as a temporary phenomenon that issues from our imagination?
