Laurent Grasso is fascinated by mysterious and intangible phenomena, from secret military bases, global surveillance networks to ancient natural phenomena such as the Northern Lights or sun eclipses. He creates a poetic world by combining various media, different times and dimensions in his work. A world in which heaven and earth meet, in which facts and fiction, the worldly and the heavenly are intertwined. Grasso is particularly interested in moments when observation and scientific knowledge are disrupted by beliefs and the supernatural. He is inspired by classical art history and by contemporary image culture and investigates how ancient fears and fascinations find their way into today's society.
