Unemployed air hostess consists of seven sets of self-made uniforms that are fit for air hostesses, and are part of the artists’ ongoing research. Elise Ehry & Kitty Maria van Ekeren wear these handcrafted uniforms while being permanently off duty. This works examines constructed female roles, adapting the benefits of the uniform, without its duties. To consolidate their withdrawal from the labour market, the artists speculated on the concept on hosting through performance. Since the absence of duties has rendered them useless, they find themselves wondering: how to perform without hosting an audience, or how to host without providing a service?
