Schoon Verlangen Narges Mohammadi
(2021)

Collectie Amsterdam UMC

To create Schoon Verlangen (Clean Desire), Narges Mohammadi cut two hundred kilogrammes of Dove soap bars – the well-known white, oval shaped bars of soap with the imprint of a dove – into small pieces by hand. These pieces of soap were turned into a liquid, became solid and were slowly cut out by hand to create these shapes. By carefully washing the large bar of soap and scraping away the material with her fingernails, Mohammadi’s movements slowly created this suitcase. On the surface of this work of art, there are numerous tiny scratches and imprints – a sign of the hands of the maker. This work marks a moment of stillness in time – either an arrival or a departure.
