Brandstof: Drive-In Saturday
3 Oct 2020 Starts at: 8 p.m. Location: Garage Rotterdam

This nocturnal edition of Brandstof consists of a collage of screenings and readings presented in response to Heavy Metal Parking Lot. Drive-In Saturday brings together contributions from artists, some of whom are local and some from further afield.

In this event we contemplate the car as cultural artefact and explore how it’s role has evolved since the 1950s when Roland Barthes optimistically described it as "the supreme creation of an era, conceived with passion by unknown artists, and consumed in image if not in usage by a whole population which appropriates them as a purely magical object".

Drive-In Saturday focuses upon the car as symbol of speed, sex and death and is significantly informed by Crash, J. G. Ballard's 1973 novel about 'the perverse eroticism of the car-crash'.

Featuring Chris Petit, Alexandra Phillips, Dan Walwin and others.
