In his installation for Animalia at Garage Rotterdam, he consistently presents us with images and habits of animals in terms of our visual culture; animals depicted in seemingly cheerful and colourful illustrations. But what are these animals actually illustrating? From a philanthropic and anthropological point of view, Simon Wald-Lasowski has discovered the most bizarre ways in which we ‘use’ animals, both in the Netherlands and further afield. We see bows made of toad leather and other objects which questions the human-animal relationship. At first sight, it is all colour and cheer, however, upon closer inspection it is followed by a more sinister realty. The installation is being observed by human-like apes.
