Parallel Welt (grün/blau) Alicja Kwade
(2010)

45 x 45 x 83 cm Kaiser-Idell lamps, two mirrors Courtesy of Private Collection P. Ehrhardt

Alicja Kwade is interested in intangible phenomena such as time, light and space, where immaterial value is equally important as the material appearance of her work. Such topics as doubling time and space, structures of reality, reflection and parallel worlds are central to her work. Just like Boezem, Kwade makes regular use of mirrors in her sculptures, thereby refining our perceptive ability.

With Parallel Welt, using two Kaiser-Idell lamps and two mirrors, Kwade has created an infinite world of light, reflected in space. But, just as with Boezem’s Della Scultura & La Luce, infinity is only accessible in our imagination.
