Flame is the first completely 3D walking robot with electronic controls. Its upper body contains most of the essential electronics, such as a control loop, a sensor and amplifiers. The robot weighs about 15 kilos, is about 1.30 metres tall and walks at a speed of 0.45 metres per second. Follow-up studies are being carried out with regard to both lower and higher speeds, starting and stopping and coping with obstacles. The most important aspect solved with the arrival of Flame was its stable gait by means of a simple sideways movement of the feet.
