Dribbling, not unpleasantly, down my bare sides, Alex Farrar
(2023)

Dürst Britt & Mayhew

Sweat is a physical manifestation of our emotions. Fear, stress or fun can leave traces on the surfaces that come into contact with our body. Alex Farrar poetically expresses this physical phenomenon in his Sweat Paintings. The abstract canvases are subtle, transparent, light and delicate. The organic shapes are undesirable manifestations of our body: sweat stains. On his canvases, Farrar makes a temporary phenomenon permanent, with a hint of unease and shame. This is how he brings an intimate moment into the public domain. By playing with scale, colour and light the Sweat Paintings go beyond our daily reality and become an abstract, poetic representation.
