This too shall fade Jochem Rotteveel

For this exhibition, Jochem Rotteveel has created a large site-specific mural. He usually opts for bright and contrasting colours, but here he has allowed himself to be inspired by the transience of our current times and makes use of faded colours. The piece confronts us with man’s fragile mortality.

The title of the work, 'This too shall fade', also refers to the colours that fade in the sun and to the temporality in Rotteveel's work and of this 'corona phase'. Ultimately, all of his murals are temporary in nature. After the exhibition, Rotteveel's work is taken down from the wall and in this case even the entire wall disappears. This serves as a statement to show that art does not necessarily have to last for ever, but that you experience the real value in the moment itself.
