Tom Claassen named his bronze bird ‘De Hark’, meaning ‘the stick man’. It is a fantasy animal reminiscent of a pelican. There is also a ‘hark’ mounted on the outer wall of an apartment complex in Amsterdam. The statue is a reference to the Amsterdam school, a style of architecture known for its brickwork, into which it was customary to integrate sculptures.
