Megan Rooney’s practice unfolds across painting and floating murals, written and spoken word, sculpture and installation. Her diverse work often presents the viewer (or listener) with characters in recognisable social settings and awkward moments. Her paintings reveal grotesque body parts and faces floating around in pastel-coloured environments full of smudges and brushstrokes. Porcine faces and abject bodies are implied by painted lips and thick eyelashes. The naive style of painting reinforces the suggestive atmosphere of the scenes, while remarkable titles seem to refer hint at underlying narratives.
