Amélie Grözinger studied philosophy, humanities and fashion design. She single-handedly translated her varied background into a practice as visual artist. Places where she has exhibited include DIEHL Gallery in Berlin and PS Projectspace in Amsterdam.
Amélie Grözinger constructs sculptures and wall works from such materials as paper, resin, polystyrene and plaster. Her works are often the result of a labour-intensive, manual construction process. The work Speculum, part of a large series, is comprised of shreds of silver paper that have been folded and stapled, like atomic particles, into a mathematical-looking pattern. The title refers to the medical instrument for examining bodily orifices. The circle is suggestive of a mirror, but could just as easily be a moon or a 'portal' to another dimension. The work Burning #10 is another molecular-looking composition of fragments stapled to one another, this time from an Italian newspaper. The paper was partly burned, the original information made illegible in various ways.
