Alicja Kwade based her sculpture on the so-called ‘wormhole’ phenomena. Wormholes are theoretic structures that connect two places or two dimensions in the universe with one another. Various ideas exist for the graphical representation of wormholes. This is no easy task, as it attempts to visualise something that exists beyond our perception. Wormholes are connections between parallel worlds, which in theory enable free movement between different dimensions in various forms. In this work, Kwade uses a stone in various guises to illustrate a theoretical fact.
