Sulaiman Majali studied sculpture at the Academy of Arts in Brighton and is currently completing his subsequent training at Glasgow School of Art. In 2014 he was nominated for the International Emerging Artist Award.

Sulaiman Majali works on the crossroads between sculpture, film and performance. He has a poetic way of combining fiction with reality, and the familiar with what is alien. An important role is played here by Majali’s background, partly British and partly Jordanian. In search of identity, he plays with our culturally encoded expectations and patterns of thinking. With critical scrutiny he explores the dominant frameworks that determine our definition of ‘the other’.

Mythological topics such as geographical and ethnic origin, as well as life and death, religious beliefs, fertility, battle, conquest, destruction and resurrection all feature symbolically in Majali's work. His images refer to primitive cultures, but at the same time they have a touch of science fiction. By confronting onlookers with 'empty', archetypal templates, he shows how history repeats itself everywhere and throughout all the centuries.
