In 1842, the Black Watch or the 42nd Regiment saw action in Afghanistan. Major General Andrew Gilbert died for this regiment in South Africa in 1899. The regiment recently fought in Iraq and Afghanistan, but budget cuts and restructuring of the British army mean that they no longer exist.
