Rogier Arents seeks the interface between the visual language of imagery and scientific research. He believes that visualising complicated material facilitates our comprehension. As a designer, he helps scientists communicate their knowledge to the public visually. Arents designs visual devices that make the transfer of knowledge more transparent.

These processes combine old and new techniques, neatly sewn together with a narrative. Arents transforms information into a story. For instance, for his thesis, Secret Signals, he used an old-fashioned plotter printer to record a complex scientific study by means of lines. The way in which this printing process is visualised creates a sense of space and tells a story. Arents’ work particularly in combination with digital illustrations, borders on the medium of film.
